Mind you, Tanegashima is a REALLY cool place. Interesting history and space center! Plus the weather is great (except for right now).

Funny, Tanegashima was actually the first island we considered for 離島留学 but it was pretty far to make my research trips to Fukuoka and Nagasaki. We ended up on Iki. Rent here is cheap & the internet is fast, and it is only an hour on the jetfoil to Fukuoka! Perfect for remote

Is that Marishisontendo down around Kenninji?
Marishiten is a very interesting deva. She is the patron of many samurai households.

8yo: “Why does it stay in the basket even when it’s upside down?” 🤔
Me: “Centrifugal force.” 💡
8yo: “What’s that?” 👼
Me: “Physics! The study of force!” 👨🏫

Wasn’t a very nice day but we were close so we checked out Satohama Beach.
DOUBLE SANDBAR! OMG… It’s a DOUBLE SANDBAR all the way!! 🌈🌈
Left my sandals & went. INTENSE. Korea is just over there. Tide was out so it only came up to my knees. Definitely going back on a 🌞 day!

I come from the Rockies. I was 11 when I first saw the sea. As a young ‘un I was raised on Alberta Beef, herded across prairies. Don’t think I will ever get used to seeing cattle on cliffs, overlooking blue ocean waves crashing on ancient lava flows. #Islandlife

As a Canadian I was already fearful of visiting China. I was going to try and make it to HK next year… don’t think that is going to happen now…

Stopped by the original Tsukiyomi-jinja, shrine to the kami of night. This shrine was founded originally on Iki and has a satellite shrine in Matsunotaisha in Kyoto. @Mutantfroginc I am looking forward to your impressions once you move back here. I have been thinking about the changes a lot since I got back. It has been 10 years away for me… The online environment is so different. Back in the day, it felt very small, but it has exploded!
