A few weeks ago I read The Autobiography of Malcolm X, and have been watching some clips of him on TV in the 1960s and it is shocking how ignorant people were of Islam in North America back then! 🤯

Yeah I would think especially in an emergency. Though you might be paying quite a bit for the medication afterwards, depending on if you have a plan.

I knew it was too good to be true! That would have been an amazing story. Back when I was young and beautiful 🥴 I got a job in Kyoto as a stock image model. Only once have I ever seen my image out in the wild… not so beautiful I guess 🤷♂️

On the second or third floor, I can’t remember. The windows faced south. I was in the end unit close to the street… I dunno how many units there are, but it was like a hotel with a bed, a desk, and a small fridge. No kitchen IIRC (or maybe I just ate out every night 🤷♂️)

When I came to work for Rits on Jan 2 2002 they put me up in the guest rooms above that museum for like 3 weeks until I could secure an apartment. No idea!

So many stories like that. Gives you a whole new perspective, especially when you stare out wide-eyed at all the intense infrastructure built up in all the major Japanese cities. There must be an app that geotags facts like this.

Lived in Nagoya for 4 years. My first daughter was born there. It is a LIVEABLE city, small enough that it doesn’t feel overcrowded, but big enough to have everything the big city has, including distinct neighbourhoods to explore.

Mate I threw UP in the gusty winds on the ferry to Iki from Karatsu yesterday! 🤮
We sailed into the headwind and the boat smashed down over big waves causing huge sprays! 🌊
Hope the deck of the ship liked that fancy bistro lunch. They had bad service anyway…

Totally don’t remember it from Nagoya. I only noticed this one randomly. Normally I sit on the other side of the Shinkansen, so that I can get a glimpse of the Setonaikai… but after a couple days of choppy water, that last thing I wanted to see today was the sea! 🤢

I saw a really impressive one at Imari, though I didn’t take a photo. I am sure someone out there has done a photo book on luxurious wedding chapel architecture of the 90s in Japan. Wonder if I could do one for each Shinkansen station from end to end? 「チャペル海道」

Last time I rode the Shink to Kyoto there were I think 9 people in the car. Just left Hiroshima Shink and is is much fuller. Every 2 person row has a person, and almost every 3 person row has at least two people in it, with the middle seat open. So, something like 40人?

At the ferry terminal Otw to Kyoto. Yesterday we got back from Karatsu. High winds due to the typhoon, and pretty much everyone got sick. I hope the deck liked the lunch I had at that fancy bistro in Karatsu with the bad service. Not looking fed to next couple hours 🤢 🛳

Imari+Arita was a hub of ceramics since the 1600s. After Meiji, they made ceramic insulators to replace the glass ones the Brits used on the first telegraphs. The Mongol sinking area was a bit far, so will visit when I come back to explore the pirate towns of Hirado. https://twitter.com/chadkoh/status/1307462416645513216

Saw a lot of cool stuff in Arita today but Tōzan Shrine built to potters in 1658 with a ceramic torii ⛩ takes the 🏆. There were some impressive ceramics on site, but many of their treasures were stored away due to the typhoon. Even the omamori were ceramic! #japan #shinto
