I always take people to this shrine when visitors come to Kyoto. I have pentagram charms on my car here in Iki, and even used to have pentagram charm stickers on my front door in Canada which worked well at keeping uninvited solicitors away! 🤣 https://twitter.com/camelliakyoto/status/1315813814923796481

Watch the film. Read the book. Thoughts acquire speed, the lips acquire stains, stains become a warning. It is by will alone you set your mind in motion. Let the spice flow! 🐛

Today’s wind brought out the ondako 鬼凧 or Demon Kites. A local #ikijima #壱岐 legend ends up with people flying these kites, which depict a warrior with a severed demon head on his helmet, up in the sky to warn any demons from coming to the island. They make a wicked sound too!

Paying windy respects at another point on #ikijima #壱岐. This one sticks out with cliffs on either side, and there is Sakyobana! One of the 8 heavenly pillars. For more info see

For sure! Which reminds me of another quote:

Luck can be an opportunity prepared for since before your birth. 😉

Quite enjoyed this. Reminiscent of the interviews with Jay and Gabriel at the end of the 1Q84 audiobook, where they discuss the challenges of alternating translation duties as each volume came out! 😱 Anywho, rushing out to buy Sayaka Murata books! 📚💸 https://twitter.com/JapanDeepDive/status/1314145988710297600

@AntonyJohnston There is a spot near the end where Ginny talks about why she prefers translating to writing her own novel that made me think. “Has Antony ever considered having a translator on W&B?”

Sitting in my living room working and the windows are just rattling around me with the wind. Announcement came on the emergency island speaker: all ships to and from Iki cancelled for today and tomorrow. Feeling the effects of #Typhoon_Chan_hom even tho it’s supposed to go by us.

For those that have read Neal Stephenson’s “Anathem”, do you find yourself wanting to use words from that book, but stop since you know nobody around you will have a clue? I particularly want to use “plane” “the Rake” and “upsight” all the time.

Tbh most people I know are just using Apple Notes. You can drag and drop images and stuff into it and the syncing is rock solid and it is freeish depending on how many gigs you need.

I use ByWord/iAWriter with a folder full of plaintext files on Dropbox. Great for markdown, not so good if you need a lot of images or PDFs. For writing and research I use Ulysses right now. Quite like it but Scrivener is good too.

Not *everyone* has to fall into this profile, but I think these have a high rate of execution, which is very healthy for the community as a whole, especially in terms of peer learning. (ie. Not everyone is a student making an adtech moonshot bc 💰)
