The Ikkikoku Museum invited me to take part in a local volunteer guide group tour of Ashibe. These are all history nerds who know a ton about the island which is so awesome! I am learning lots. I am their fist gaijin, but since they are all double my age I REALLY stand out. 👼

Yesterday we visited the man mountain. Today we are at the woman mountain. Here we have a giant female rock. The shrine houses Amenouzune the kami who married Sarutahiko. Across the way you can see the observation platform we were on yesterday.

Ondake Shrine features about 400 monkey statues. One set of statues references the manliness of the mountain 🙈

At the top of the mtn is Ondake Shrine 男嶽神社, a “man” shrine. There is a photo of a manly rock below. Since the shrine houses Sarutahiko there are lots of monkeys. (In the replies I will post a pic of a particularly “manly” monkey that is definitely NSFW)
