You are correct! LNG is #1 (very close to coal) for *electricity* generation. Oil is #1 for *overall* energy consumption. Apologies for not being specific enough. https://twitter.com/JMMiyazaki/status/1323805495442898946

As a Canadian, I always thought Florida was like The Golden Girls. It wasn’t until I started doing business there (and in the online education sector which is brutal!) that I started to see it differently. You have my commiserations.

Yesterday was a national holiday here in Japan and the kids were home so I was not super productive. Thought I might make it up somewhat today, but the numbers are coming in, and that is not looking likely. Always tomorrow I guess? 🤷♂️

That is 1/54. Since Fukushima, 9 reactors resumed operations and 24 were to be decommissioned. Nuclear originally accounted for 30% of Japan’s electricity, and was supposed to account for 20+% by 2030. Coal is up to 33% from 25% since 2011. Oil is still #1 energy source. https://twitter.com/Nevin_Thompson/status/1323759945154588673

16, but a bunch of them are meat, which I don’t eat. Funny, it would have been more before I was a vegetarian. Giving up meat has actually EXPANDED the foods I am willing to eat!

We wanted something cross cultural, and it sure is! (It IS the name of the mother of the Buddha.) This year we are on a small island off the coast of Japan. My 2 kids are going to an elementary school, grade 1 to 6, with total 44 students — and there is another Maya here!

Photos from Imari, where the Nabeshima Clan had a hidden valley from which they shipped pottery to the palaces of Europe after the fall of the Ming Dynasty in the 17th C. The kids made some vases that we just received all painted and fired! https://flic.kr/s/aHsmRTWbsK

The Heart Sutra is one of the key shared Buddhist teachings across all of North Asia. You see it lots of places in Japan. This book sounds like it may be more accessible than Kazuaki Tanahashi’s, which is more for a scholarly audience (though I still enjoyed it). https://twitter.com/BooksOnAsia/status/1323076897572442112

We watched Corpse Bride last night (11yo and 8yo) and it was a success. They were scared and pulling up the blanket on the kotatsu quite a bit, but went to sleep pretty easily. The new Addams Family cartoon was also popular. We watched that a couple weeks ago.

Used it a lot when the iPhone first came out. Was an easier transition coming from the garakei. But since I been away from Japan for a while, I am back on regular keyboard. If you do a lot of mobile typing in Japanese it is really worth the time investment.

This was great! We need a bunch of YouTube links for the routines mentioned in the show notes though. I found WRH from Shawn’s blog https://vimeo.com/247904473 as well as Takamatsu’s YT channel https://www.youtube.com/user/takamatsuch/ but not the specific example.
What about the red fundoshi guy?
