Thanks Peter. You might want to talk to your web people since the search function returns nothing for even a simple search like “student”

@nippon_en @Durf @RichardMedh Is there an explainer about 不登校児 on http://Nippon.com? I need to link to a resource that covers the topic for Japan, but your search engine is not turning anything up…

Really enjoyed the conversation you had with him. It was very engaging to hear both of your perspectives, and I learned lots. Also glad to hear about the new bio of Malcolm, I will pick that up for sure. You got me on Libro! 🙌

So many good things in this ep! Particularly enjoyed thinking about Malcolm’s legacy, what he might have done at Attica, for Rodney, BLM, or even LGBTQ. Also, the leaderFUL movements of today 🎯 @marclamonthill’s closing comments about X’s relationship to books is inspirational. https://twitter.com/thestackspod_/status/1321452708029628417

I needed to update my mobile computing so bought an iPad Pro rather than my normal MacBook. I got the pen thinking I would do a lot of handwriting… but I don’t use it at all… it just doesn’t feel good. ReMarkable (and other devices like it) look like a much better experience.

The building is Katsumoto Elementary School. The island over my left shoulder is Wakamiyajjma, the whole of which is a Self Defense Forces base.

Chilly day here on #Ikijima #壱岐, only 15degs. But that means it is extra clear, so if you head up to the northern part of the island, from the old Katsumoto castle ruins, you can see Tsushima 53km away across the strait (on the left). Korea is another 100km beyond.

Here on Iki the mix is very different 😃

The women who have built up the small Japanese community, language school etc from scratch have done incredible work. And this is in a community with 5 gens of Nikkei, but it is complex due to the internment. There are many J communities there.

Yeah it’s probably pretty deep. Not my field, I am just interested because of our experience working with the 1st gen Japanese community in rural Canada. It has some unique challenges when compared to other Asian communities in Canada. Would be nice to see a cross-community study

At first, just based on the title, I thought it was about Japanese immigrants ABROAD. I would love to see a modern day analysis of that topic. Know any? Specifically, the challenges of building Japanese community overseas, mixed marriage, kids and heritage language, etc etc.
