After our parfait we stopped by a 7th C burial mound. #ikijima #壱岐 has about 300 of these Yamato-era mounds, many you can just walk into. The ceiling is super low, and bad for my claustrophobia. The coffin in this one is open and is really small!

Pankaj Mishra. I think we would be brilliant to sit down for tea with for a couple of hours.
Although, the Dalai Lama would be pretty excellent as well. I would feel a lot better about myself and the world after drinking with him. https://twitter.com/camelliakyoto/status/1330330518978781190

Yes, we have 3 to choose from: Yomiuri, Mainichi, Asahi. And they deliver every day out here on the island (except if a storm prevents the ships from arriving, but then EVERYONE has to live without the paper, bread, eggs, etc for a few days). Just amazing.

I will make it over to Yoshinogari at some point. Also, I need to boat over to Tsu and see the castle. That island is spooky, lots of old gods there like Iki.

It has been very instructive! After so many years in Kyoto, I feel like I am rediscovering Japan. And since I am a little older, and a little better read, I am getting more out of it. Just wish I had kept up my Japanese the last 10 yrs in Canada. 😞

Have you evr been to Hara-no-tsuji on Iki? I have not been to Yoshinogari, but a friend who recently visited has been, and he was shocked at how much less “touristy” it is compared to Yoshinogari. OTOH, they have much more information for visitors apparently.

Other than Demon Kites we also made bamboo lanterns today at https://ikitabiweek.com, a sort of fair that had many activity and commercial booths, as well as opportunities to learn about what #ikijima #壱岐 is doing for the Global #SDGs eg. there were some sweet Smart Ag drones

… maybe it was working internationally and being exposed to lots of international liberals? But that world was full of the conventions. It took me until my mid-30s to come back to the left. And as every day passes and I see what is going on, I become more radicalized.

The “our” was meant to be generational. There obviously is a class element. My dad used a bunch of logging lorries to block the national highway in a labour protest in the 80s. I was a massive punk then, and self-declared socialist. But once I graduated into the “real world” …

I really liked my Acer H277HU. I think it was a good balance between quality and price. If I was doing more design I would probably go higher end, but it is a decent looking thing, and the USB-C means it becomes a dock for you. Convenient. Take a look.
