To be honest, I don’t think we were talking about a 鬼門 or 鬼。I think they just meant demons in western sense. I don’t think my kids even know what a 鬼門 is.
However, wouldn’t it be crazy if a way to do 厄払い for your household 鬼門 would be build a door and bolt it shut⁉️

I attempted to open it and have discovered it is drilled shut. You can see through the hole that there is a space beyond.
The door must be holding something in?

Okay, the consensus is that this weird door suspended in the middle of the wall of our room is a “Demon Gate.” Nobody wants to open it. I’m asking Twitter if we should, and also since I know you will all say YES because “why not” I want to leave this as a record before our deaths

I wish I could have taken my camera into the onsen. From the outside bath it was the perfect view of the mountain. As the sun went down, the bright golden light receded up to the peak, before it was too cold and I had to go inside.

Beautiful view of Mt Yufu from our hotel. The landscape around here is amazing. Ancient volcanic activity created rolling hills, short grass grows everywhere, blown down by the winds.

I am sure this is common for lots of coastal towns. I don’t ever recall seeing this kind of thing in Kyoto or Nagoya. TBH I was never really that bothered about the weather until I moved to a remote island. Weather here is serious business.

It is SUPER windy on Iki today. I am on the north side of the island on a school visit and stopped in at the convenience store/supermarket. You have to use the side door since their main doors are closed due to wind! 🌬

😄 Do they have other English-speaking kids to interact with up there in Ishikawa? We have literally NONE on Iki. When I visited Tokyo last year there were so many! It was funny to see how quickly they all got on together.
