Okay! That was re-energizing! ⚡️Now that I am fully recharged 🔋 it is time to hit the last spot before returning to Karatsu to meet my family.

Made it to the top of Nagoya-jo castle ruins! The flat area is where the main castle grounds were, and where I am standing on the edge is where the keep was. Look at that view! It is a little hazy otherwise you would see Ikijima from here.

A little windy, and a little unsafe as we climb up the castle ruins of Nagoya-jō. Check out the museum, but don’t fall over the edge!

Good morning! 🌞 God it has been 3 days since I have seen the sea! Instead of driving on flat straight plains or through twisty mountain passes, I have the ocean on my shoulder as I head up to the 2nd largest castle in Japan, from where Hideyoshi launched his invasion of Korea

On the way back to Karatsu, after the massive rotating statue (see previous tweet), stopped by Myohōji in Iwaya. The golden spire always catches the eye from the expressway. Its distinctive entrance gate is covered in art. Nice drone footage on their HP https://myohoji.or.jp

Today I got to hang out with @suchibu, a lovely fellow who showed me some ancient ruins and took me to an amazing park full of blooming blossoms and a sweet smell wafting over from a nearby 和菓子 sweets maker. Thanks Steve! 🙏

Matsura Sayohime is a legendary princess from the 6th century from Karatsu. She appears in the Manyoshu as well as Noh.
Here is a massive statue that ROTATES every 15 mins!

Saga travel continues TOMORROW. Do you know what a canal weir is? There’s an interesting one near here I will try and fly my drone over. If that isn’t interesting enough for you, how about a giant rotating statue of a 6th C princess⁉️ Stay tuned! 📺

My methodology is 1) travel to location and live-tweet like a crazy person with an unlimited data plan, 2) later write a more in-depth blog post with photo galleries on Flickr and YouTube, 3) one day gather this all up in a narratively entertaining travelogue/popular history book

Okay, as a self-identified city person (even tho I grew up in a small mountain town of 2K people) I am ready for this mountain climb. I got two chocolate granola bars and a fresh café latte.
