Our cabin was pretty sweet. 2 beds and a bunk bed for the kids. The ship has an onsen bu we stayed in our room the whole time. We have a nice bath with a window for looking outside, but since it was dark the whole time I couldn’t use it (the window that is).

Safe travels. I hope we can catch up in Kyoto in the summer or fall. But I also hope you find the perfect job and if that means we can’t meet up in real life, so be it. 🙏

Currently packing up and getting ready to leave Kyoto and make our way back to the island. What a privilege to be able to walk down to the cafe in the sun amongst the hustle and bustle and get a decent pour over! ☕️

Thank you very kindly for the offer! But I have a stack of books that I am obligated to read and I don’t think I could make it to that one before I leave Japan. Please pass it on to a comrade in need!

#NowReading2021 “Pastoral” by André Alexis, because it has been a while since I read fiction and the last time I was in Kyoto I read his “Fifteen Dogs” which I loved. (No drink, since I am in bed) 🛌

Interesting about the mental clarity. Before I took this mini-retirement my job had me putting out fire after fire and I had no time for clarity. Now that I am working at my own pace and thinking “deep thoughts” I came to realize that clarity is the skill I am most missing.

Thanks for that. I have been certainly getting more pregnant in my forties. I stopped eating meat about 5 years ago, but since I moved to a rural location and now have a car and work from home, I don’t get my daily walk/bike commute. This seems very doable.

My wife thinks I should dedicate a chapter to Iki for my book on “Kyushu Firsts” since that is where shochu comes from and it DEFINITELY has had an effect on Japanese history+culture. But since you already wrote the book on it, maybe a reference? Or an ad? 😁

My father in law just said “I saw it on the internet and apparently IT guys like it so I got it for you” 🤷♂️ I barely even drink… it is a MAGNUM of sake. Did I do something good without knowing it?
