- What are some resources that explore the difference between Japanese encounters with Black communities from the US or the UK, compared to say people from African countries? (you briefly mentioned the difference when you noted ppl benefited from associations to the “West”)

Great conversation. A couple of questions for Warren if I may?
- In the spirit of Bandung Afro-Asian relations, did Japan connect with any African countries? Seems like they focused on SEAsia, specifically Indonesia, at least economically. Any intellectual/cultural encounters?

Also appreciated @ChongJaIan’s insight about ASEAN engagement with the new National Unity Gov: a delicate balancing act. If it legitimizes the NUG, what other countries with breakaway/separatist govs can begin petitioning ASEAN? https://twitter.com/Diplomat_APAC/status/1383842768015925249

Excellent point from @EvanLaksmana re how “ASEAN centrality” is perceived internally/externally: External powers look at outcomes, eg. success at solving problems. ASEAN itself thinks of it more as defining INPUTS. It is a question of process, and being part of decision-making. https://twitter.com/Diplomat_APAC/status/1383842768015925249

Apologies for the misinterpretation. I’ve been watching the fallout on TalkSport & other shows in the UK and everyone keeps referring to “Americans”… just want to make sure everyone is keeping focus on the capitalISM rather than the nationalISM. As you said, same same for Brexit

This seems like the kind of discriminatory stuff that public advocates would take up pro bono. It could be a PR disaster. I wonder if this means other brokers could use this as a competitive advantage? Not that it helps you out now. Hope everything works out.

In other words, oftentimes tourism takes advantage of local resources (natural, cultural, economic, etc). How can we CONTRIBUTE to places we visit, not just take?
This is something I’ve been wrestling with… any learning resource recommendations?
(original)
-
@jjwalsh do you have a resource for tourists visiting a destination with recommendations on how to travel sustainably and contribute to a local community (above and beyond just contributing to the “local economy)? This❓might be too complex for Twitter…
