#TwitterHistorians Can someone recommend resources for thinking about national history through the “periphery”? ie analyzing provincial/regional contributions to state/nation identity/culture/power etc
Searching around I am obviously not using the correct terminology. Help! 🙇♂️

I’ll be watching the #Yasuke special on NHK @ 9PM tonight. I finished the book last month (and I am looking forward to seeing the museum curator I met in Kuchinotsu appear. 😉)

Totally scared. Not sure if we can even come back to Kelowna. 🤷♂️ Rents have doubled since we were away! Housing is a bigger problem than corona for returning from our 1 year exchange…

My mind was blown when I first saw the kanji for “byan”, famously written below by @aoyagibisen. Today I was looking through some other kanji with huge stroke counts: 172, 160, 128… Byan seems simple now at a mere 58 strokes!

Bringing the above to your attention in case you have had guests before who discussed this topic. Often “sustainability” is more about the environmental or economic, but what about the cultural? eg. for Japan there are a LOT of stereotypes that need to be tackled

One nice thing about having an empty lot by your house is every once in a while a food truck sets up shop on the weekend and I don’t have to cook. This week: jerked chicken sammiches for $5! The owner Shuya just returned from wintering in Jamaica.
