There are some really good “tester” packs that have a lot of different smells to experiment with. Lots of fun.

From Kyoto I take 線香 and yatsuhashi (both 生 and dry) because they are thin and easy to pack; anything お尻探偵 for little kids; and I will take at least one pack of squid jerky for the fun factor.

😁 Let me complicate this further: My MA is actually in “War Studies” from the Royal Military College. It is a mix of History+IR… I did a constructivist analysis of risk of kinetic conflict between Japan and China over energy resources. So I come down more on the IR side.

Very curious about this one. “Procedure” and “theory” are different, but “theory of procedure” can change? (I am not a historian)

Went up Ondake mountain to the “Man Shrine” to consult with Sarutahiko, the diety of open roads/guidance. Dot a GOLD 金 omikuji with a very good fortune! We climbed up the observation deck and got a beautiful view. Twas so windy I thought we’d be blown off! 1/4

Wayyy back in the day I used Lloyd’s and it had a flat 3000 yen fee. Transfer took 3 days but it was cheap! They aren’t around anymore, but it seems like Wise is common. Thanks!

Japan peeps: sending yens back home (eg. Canada), are you using Wise née Transferwise? Some other service? Recommendations please 🙏 Thanks! 🙇♂️

I often work up here in my car with my iPad, overlooking this view. This time I brought my GoPro and set it up to record. It is right beside a road so you will hear the sounds of cars passing occasionally. You might hear my car door as I occasionally check on the camera. Enjoy!

Kuyoshihama is in Ashibe town, on the upper east side of Iki. The town has about 7000 people. It has a port just to the west of the the beach, so you can see the ferries and jetfoils come in.

A while back I talked to @DavidinSetouchi about having everyone post a few minutes of their local ocean view— something you can put on to relax or in the bg while working. Here is 40m of my local beach 🏖️ on #ikijima #壱岐 for you to enjoy in HiRes here: https://youtu.be/z-uArWhpho0

Yep. Aliases, fast search, notes… all the basic stuff. Been a longtime user, basically since the Snowden revelations when I tried to be more conscious about my web product choices. (I quit FB in 2010 due to the crazy sh!t they were pulling around FHTML and standards back then)

Envious. We made the choice to educate our kids in Canada, so we will likely be there until they are out of the house. I don’t have a fancy oil exec job where I can pay for international school in Singapore or something like that 😅 But this year in Japan has given them a lot.
