The last year I spent dedicated on my book was brilliant. I will continue working on it in the year to come, but having a whole year to pour into it was invaluable. Progressed so far in all sorts of ways.

I NEED to dedicate a year to reading better in Japanese. Would be so useful.

Self-improvement things I would love to dedicate about a year to:
- fitness
- Upasika program at my monastery
- chess
- tea ceremony
Physical, spiritual, mental, cultural in no particular order. Maybe 1 each for the next 4 years? 😇

It might simply be I haven’t followed closely enough. I admit I have been out of the tech criticism loop for a while now. I am certainly interested to see what you end up with.

Ah, so like Cyborgology. Are you looking for places for students to submit? I feel like these days focus has shifted to specific topics (eg urbanism, finance, education, etc) and away from “tech” as organizing principle. Students might look at issue-specific sites like that.

Being “very opinionated” on technology selection, which seems like a “senior dev” flex, but is actually *inflexible* and doesn’t play to the team. Like you said: “coach” the team through vendor/tech adoption. They learn from your XP, bring their diverse opinions, & better buy-in.

Wow information dissemination in Canada’s medical bureaucracy is a real shambles. Getting correct, timely information from all the various offices/agencies/specialists is — excuse the cliché — like pulling teeth!

Left our government-mandated quarantine @ YVR and now ensconced safely in our Isolation House in Kelowna.
9yo: “When can we play with our cousins?”

Me: 😳 “Wut!? You mean ‘quarantine’?”

Adrian introduced it to me back then when we were doing a lot of BDD/TDD type stuff. Since we were using Symfony we used the PHP. I dunno if it has been ported to other langs/frameworks

No worries! We have a 14 day quarantine here. 4 in a government designated hotel, and you can do your next 10 at home in certain conditions. I have 2 daughters and one is a preteen so this is going to be… interesting 😉

Everyone has to do the hotel for the first 3 nights. Afterwards you can do your next 10 days in a family home (under certain conditions). But to be honest, the situation in ON will probably be different 2 months from now. 🤷♂️ Fluid times, right?

Upon arrival at the hotel we are put into yet another quarantine waiting room before we are checked in to our room for the next four days.
It’s a bit dramatic I admit, but the whole time all I can think of is that scene from Children of Men.
More tomorrow once I’ve slept.

The driver loaded our 6 boxes and two large suitcases complaining about his back. Apparently they are not even supposed to “touch” our luggage(?). We are hauled across the bridge, the bus creaks over the cracked Canadian pavement.

After being nasally swabbed we are corralled (in a socially distanced sort of way) into another waiting area. A large man with a heavy accent shouts directions about transportation to our hotel rooms. We are then put into a shuttle bus. 3/5

The “greeting hall” where loved ones would line up to welcome people home has been transformed into a testing facility. I have so many fond memories of this place, but now temporary walls board up stores and guide travellers through a socially-distanced maze. 2/5

YVR looks a lot different than when we left 15 months ago. At that time the pandemic had just started. It was a ghost town, only staff patrolling with masks on whispering to one another about what will happen. Upon return the airport has been transformed. 1/5

Oooh! I like this. Found this slower rendition on Spotify. Makes me imagine two lovers on a bridge over a canal, unable to decide which way to go: she goes one way? He the other? Or stay together?
