Phew 💦 first day back at the gym in nearly 2 years! 🏋️ My goal is to lose this Covid “19” I gained living the car life on Iki Island (and which continues back in Canada), but also to try and recover some of the drastic muscle loss I have had since entering my forties. 💪

I got one a while ago, but to be honest they get gummed up pretty easily. You need to grind your coffee a little coarser over time, and boil the filter occasionally to get the oils out. Here is a vid of water pouring through a brand new filter: https://chadkohalyk.com/2020/12/09/ceramic-coffee-filter/

Do you keep all your photos in one giant Photos db? I split mine out each year so I can stay within the 50gb iCloud sync tier 🤑
But it is sad that I don’t get haunted by ancient and low res photos of my younger self… 😔

After experiencing life on a remote island, I listened to this fun interview with much interest. Dr Rausch brings up some good points I wish more people knew about, plus he gives a great concise explanation of the _furusato nozei_ system! #NowReading2021 “Piranesi” by Susanna Clarke.
Huge, huge fan of Strange & Norrell, but I waited for the right mood before I picked this up: a little lost and looking for wonders.
I know nothing about it, so no spoilers!
(BTW this is read by Chiwetel Ejiofor, one of my favs!)

Hey that is right before we got on the plane to Canada at Haneda, AFTER we left Iki with *19 boxes* 📦 📦 📦 (left stuff in Kyoto)
Shipping to Canada had stopped right before we left, so we could only take what we had on our backs (and in our boxes). No bloody room for Carlos!

We would take the jetfoil to Hakata, taxi, then Shink to Osaka (the end of the Kyushu line and thus cheaper) then regular trains to Kyoto. BUT if we had tons of luggage we would fly to Nagasaki then Itami, then Jumbo Taxi it to Kyoto.

We put the kids in school in Kyoto for a couple weeks at a time for a few years, but this was the first time they went hardcore fulltime j-school. It was so great (for the parents! 😂)
But I am proud of them for what they did while in Iki. That’s REAL resilience and “grit” 💪

Iki was super flexible though. There were only 48 kids in the school, and my daughters were in split classes, so they could just switch sides for classes that were tough (eg. 書写 or 数学). The teachers were so accommodating! Bonus of inaka life

Basically we just stuck with age groups. We left in March (gr 5 and 3) and joined in May (J gr 5 and gr 3) then left in July (halfway through J gr 6 and gr 4) and are now starting in Canada gr 7 and gr 4. Confused yet? Basically it was all okay except the 3 month summer break! 😩
