There is a sharp inflection point from when I read Piketty’s Capital. Newly questioning eyes could see the system’s racism. Eric Garner brought BLM to my attn, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission made me reconsider Idle No More. Seeing how my wife was treated… = RADICALIZED

I was going to do the Narita test, but worried if results didn’t come on time for the flight (the whole fam was flying so higher risk), so got mine the day before at a local clinic in Kyoto. Spit at 11, paid 14,000yen ea., pick up certs at 4 and felt no nerves flying the next day

Look in the thread to see some of the other chains. LIFE was a big one we use in Kyoto. Jusco is another 懐かしい place. Not that they were family-friendly brands, but sad they all seem to be turning into ÆONs these days https://twitter.com/UnseenJapanSite/status/1444337269264035841

Apita all the time when we lived in Nagoya. ÆON is at every bloody station in Kansai now. Also in Nagasaki, but YouMe Town is way more common there and Saga. I have seen Seiyu, but I don’t know what an Itoyokado is.

Epic epic thread that pays homage to the late great David Graeber, ties in a debate between Piketty and Hudson, with two large dollops of China and technopolitics on top. Must read 👏 👏 👏 https://twitter.com/doctorow/status/1443269178132086785

If you do go to Iki, rent a car. I can intro you to some places to stay and people to show you around. Not really a “less travelled” island tho. It is a weekend spot for so many from Fukuoka.

You have a lot of good ones. I loved Okinoerabu when I went there a hundred years ago… and I didn’t even know the Saigo Takamori connection back then! Amakusa is on my radar too. Nice combo with Goto. If you go to Tanegashima try to line up with a launch!

I am just eating twice a day: 11:30 lunch and 5PM dinner. No snacking (anti-snaxxer!) and drinking lots of water. Also trying to get a walk/ride in, and 2x at the gym. I do judo 2x a week with the kids. So hopefully enough to burn the fat away.
