Tokyo Story is amazing, just to see the streets in 1953. It is kinda like seeing the Champs-Élysées in “Breathless” — a postcard from history.

#NowReading2021 Gorgeous winter day so I went for a short walk and listened to Ring by André Alexis. I have been waiting for this! It is the final part of his Quincunx Series (and 3rd in the plot timeline, so now I can finish the series). Big fan!

#NowReading2021 Continuing on the theme of short explainers of national development, I listened to “Korea: A Very Short Introduction” by Michael J Seth which gave me a better sense of the periodization of the two Koreas, especially during the Joseon up to the modern period.

If you are close to Doshisha, Sōkokuji is nice. Also check Papa John’s at the West entrance for some great cheesecake.
Daitoku-ji is on the list right? Also Seimei jinja is not that far. If you go to Nijo and need a break, check out @ranHotei to the south for MORE cheesecake 😂

#NowReading2021 Just finished “The Rise of Modern Japan” a short Great Courses lecture series from @MarkRavina. It’s a really dense history of Japan in the post-war, right up to Covid. Wish it was a series, since I’d love to be caught up on a bunch of countries like this.

Re: the Japan-Korea fallback. I am from Canada and it is similar here. “We couldn’t get into America so we went with Canada 🤷” However, there definitely isn’t the attitude that the US is superior 😜
