The first week of J-League always makes me so happy.
Also happy that Kyoto is back up. I hope to catch a game with my kids at Nishikyogoku this summer 😎 https://twitter.com/J_League_En/status/1496280897699540992

Alex Kerr’s Heart Sutra was a fun read.
By all accounts Amy Stanley’s book on the Edo period is eminently readable.

I mostly do Meiji, foreign policy, or Buddhism kinds of history. I have lots of recommendations in that zone. Not particularly familiar with literary history. I do recall on the latest @BooksOnAsia podcast David Joiner mentions some books on authors 🤔 That is a good listen too.

Give us some ideas of what you are looking for and maybe we can give recommendations? I file lots of books on my Goodreads shelf that I hear about via NBN, or academic Twitter, or BoA, or ARB, etc. There are so many! 📚

I went to Koya-san between Xmas and New Years in 2017. It was really cold! But such a lovely place. The ropeway was still down so we had to take the bus up those twisty mountain roads… I really should write a travelogue… anywho, check me in my Koya PJs!

I got today’s in one too. I love geography, and have played all sorts of games to memorize countries in the past. But this shows how much we need the context of a map. It can be challenging! I am terrible at identifying the small island nations 😅

Yep, hence my use of “extremely dense.”
I think this is just another illustration of how concentrated Japan is into a few clusters. I really feel this when I travel, how the major centres have such cultural (never mind economic) gravity.

My first was like 24 hours of soreness with some chills… nothing a couple of Advil couldn’t stop. The second seemed a little less. The booster just made me really tired on top of the soreness, but I also had a bit of light chest pain. 48 hours and I am all good now!
