Some friends from Canada were visiting Kyoto this weekend, so we took them for a walk. A LOT of people out there at #gionfestival #祇園祭 tonight. We stuck to the very edges of the festivities but it was still packed!

Yep, that certainly cuts down on experimentation and contributes to the US’s generally conservative biz culture. Good shout!

Was also thinking of the chilling effect of liability. Not something that can be measured, but I have a sense that “We are not trying that! Are you kidding!? We’ll get sued!” Not American so dunno if this is a real thing. Just my impression based on watching US cop shows. 😊

Absolutely agree! Love the soundtrack. Iman Vellani is super charismatic. Last ep was really well done. When Muneeba gives her the suit! 😭 And Abu is so gentle and funny. Lots of good characters.

New kit has arrived! @KeychronMK Q2 with blue switches. I also got a couple boxes of other switches and a whole set of keycaps to start customizing and experimenting with. This is my first plunge into the world of custom keyboards. But even out of the box it sounds pretty good!

One aspect I was waiting for you to discuss was the amount of litigation in the US. That threat can really hang over a lot of Excel-based business planning and squash smaller ventures (thinking of restaurants). What kind of business insurances are needed in Japan?

Fascinating discussion on the @WisdomPubs podcast. The idea of different groups coming together for recitation for verification totally had me thinking about CRDTs and “eventual consistency”. Also, having to pronounce both ṃ and m for ordination! 🤯

@tinastsh Hi! I was talking with @jedschmidt about looking for office space here in Kyoto, and he thought you might have a good perspective since you were previously looking. Could I get some advice? (I only have a general POJ email so I thought I would ask here.)

Happy birthday. I spent my 20s in Japan. When I went back to Canada for my 30s I was surprised at how much “adulting” I had to learn there! 😅
(Well, I suppose I still got more to learn. I turned 44 this year too 😅)

I used to be @sandbaggerone for a number years until I stopped being pseudonymous on the net. Both “chadk” and “chadko” were taken. So went with the next letter. Later it was pointed out to me it looks like “chadk OH” which considering how many out-of-context tweets I have 🤷♂️💕

Tough few YEARS… my last grandparent in 2019, wife’s mom in 2020, my dad in 2021, and Jiji in 2022. The last 3 required international moves under a global pandemic to be there in time! At least my mom is as healthy as George Burns. So we can rest for about 20 years 😅

通屋。Long day. Currently up keeping the candle alight. Today we had the same monk we had from 2 years ago. We were really impressed with his chanting at that time so we requested him again. Today we found out he is the front man in a rock band! 🤘Wife asked him for tickets… 😅
