Picked up “Travel Light”, which I think Blue recommends to Red in the text. Recommended! Beautiful novella which I think you can see the infuence on Time War, in the sense of having a globe-trotting adventure with all sorts of historical events happening in the background.

Yeah we are thinking of not taking the Shinkansen and Ferry to and from Fukuoka and taking a plane through Nagasaki to reduce our potential exposure.

We are moving everything out of my mother-in-law’s apartment, and the moving company guy came over to have a look and give us an estimate. As per “normal” I put out tea 🍵…. but 😷…. 😓😓😓. Maybe next time just give tea bags so guests can enjoy in safety? #culturaladaptation

Well, all things considered… but we are still planning on moving there in May. I have to thank you again for bringing the island to my attention last year and helping us with the decision! (I told the story to Jesse C-L in a Twitter DM, but I dunno if she passed it on to you).
(original)
-
@omhboyd btw, have you been keeping an eye on Iki? They had the first C19 in Nagasaki, and until today half of the prefectures cases were on the island. We postponed our trip there and are keeping an eye on things before we move https://www.asahi.com/articles/ASN466WFBN45TOLB00N.html?iref=sp_ss_date

No plans for Tokyo. Just trying to get to Iki once we settle things here in Kyoto (estate stuff). But once all this Corona stuff is settled we want to take a trip to HK… would be great to see you again! If you ever happen to come to Fukuoka I would meet for sure!

Famous Tōgetsu Bridge at Arashiyama. We are taking a break after all the funerary stuff and having a little staycation. The Sakura haven’t blossomed yet, so there are not a ton of people out here, tho more than I expected on a weekday. We got a private bath to limit interactions.

We are now back in our apartment, and all bathed and fed. Going to go to sleep early, and look forward to a relaxing Sunday tomorrow (or doing a ton of laundry!)

Today we finished the funerary proceedings. We changed the candle a couple times in the night so I didn’t get much sleep. The funeral was held at 11, then we drove up to the crematorium. After picking out some of the bones, we headed back for some more chanting, and a final meal.

-
The wake is over. Everyone has gone home, except the four of us who will stay overnight at the funeral home with Baba’s body, and to keep alight the candle that will show her the way through the darkness, and over the rainbow bridge to the Pure Land. Tomorrow is the cremation.

The reason we came to Kyoto this time was to spend time with my ailing mother-in-law, who’s been battling cancer for the 2nd time. Yesterday she passed away. Today is the お通夜 (wake) & tomorrow is the 告別式 (funeral), 収骨 (bone collecting), etc. First full J-funeral for me…

After a week of isolation we went into the city today. Lovely weather… there were a million young ladies in kimono for the grad ceremony at Doshisha. It was like the corona virus didn’t exist. Tho Kyoto station is pretty dead… we got right into 都路里 right away.

Yeah, this is the first version of the Smart Keyboard. It isn’t great, but the newer one is better. I hope the newest one is even better. I think it works in a pinch, but I will likely get something mechanical for serious writing… though I could use my iMac keyboard in a pinch.

I have been using an iPad Pro as my main computing device for the past few days. It is actually pretty nice… I am getting used to the little keyboard. I’ve been thinking about moving to one for my mobile device once the new ones come out, and I think this experience seals it.
