On the NE tip of the island, squished between two houses is a small temple with an impressive orange-tiled roof. This spot used to be a huge property where representatives to Hirado Domain from Korea were entertained during the Edo Period.

I am in a creek bed in the dark. We came to see the fireflies. I wish I had a decent camera with me… this blurry pic is all I have to show you. Seeing all the pinpricks of light moving along the creek bed was lovely and indescribable.

We got an annual pass, so I will definitely be going back and will share some of it’s content. For now, just enjoy this view from the tower on a really nice day here on Iki https://flic.kr/p/2j579Mn

Spent the day at Iki’s cutting edge museum, a fantastic collection of materials showing the island’s role in the “Silk Road” to Japan over 2000 years ago. See the views here https://flickr.com/photos/37392994@N08/sets/72157714433976832

Yeah it felt bad when I lived in Kyoto in the late 90s and 2000s, but these pst few years going back to visit family it is crazy. In March while we were going around, before Golden Week, everyone said it felt like Kyoto from 40yrs ago.

We “officially” moved in yesterday since it was an auspicious day: we set up the butsudan, enshrined the Sun Goddess in the kamidana, spread sand from Ise in the 4 corners of the house, and paid respects at the local (kinda creepy) shrine on the hill (which reminded me of Totoro)

Thanks for the lead, I can use this to research mics that I can get here in Japan. What would be awesome is something I could plug directly into my iPad Pro with USB-C (or even an iPhone…) and then edit there or transfer it to the iMac. I am basically a GarageBand level user…
