After 3 years Daimonji has been lit in full. The ancestorโs spirits can now return to that other world. Today is also my father-in-law’s ๅๅไนๆฅ, the 49th day completing his journey after death, so he gets to return with everyone else today. ๐ฟ ๐

Up on the eastern slopes above #Kyoto, the ลtani sobyล cemetery is lit up by โ10,000โ lanterns for #ใ็ Obon in an event called ไธ็ฏไผ Mantoโe. We walked up in the humid weather to the family grave to pay our respects. A short thread of pics and vids of the views tonight.

This is great! I remember seeing a similar thing on the north shore for these massive sea turtles that were getting ready to give birth. There were tourists there so I was grateful for the lifeguards keeping an eye out and reminding people of the rope.
